Estherline has been dreaming of giving back to the mountain village where she lived as a child. Here is what she said about the experience:
Today I discovered the purpose in my suffering as a child and why God has brought us together – to help these children. We are truly stronger together and can do so much.
This event was the first opportunity for many in our group to volunteer and give back to their community. There was a contagious joy throughout the morning.
This project was a small first step for our group, but it made a big impact on the families. Each bag of food contained enough groceries for several family meals. Items included rice, beans, vegetable oil, spaghetti, macaroni, canned milk, mackerel, and spices.
For several days, Estherline was buying the supplies and assembling the grocery bags in her home. Then on Saturday morning we drove 2 hours into the mountains for the event.
- 44 children served
- 8 volunteers led the project
- 25000 gourde budget ($403 US)
- Decouze, on Route National #2
There were several follow-up meetings after the event where the leadership team evaluated the project and planned for larger efforts in the future.
The next event is planned next month with more supplies and some simple Christmas presents for the children.
